Congratulations to the Education Team!

Our mission at the ASLC is to generate and share scientific knowledge to promote the understanding and stewardship of Alaska’s marine ecosystems. Today we wanted to highlight the sharing part of that mission, and the amazing work our Education Department does.

Specifically, the Education Team has recently won the highest honor in Distance Learning education! The Center for Interactive Learning & Collaboration has awarded the ASLC with their Pinnacle Award!

Receiving the award indicates remarkable quality of educational content and exceptional skill at program delivery.” – CILC

Lead by Darin Trobaugh, our Distance Learning program is one of the best in the world! We are super proud of their efforts to communicate ocean sciences to our audiences even when they are far away!

One Distance Learning program in particular, The Scoop on Poop!” brings students right into the role of researcher. “The Scoop on Poop” highlights ASLC scientists’ Steller sea lion scat research program.  Because the program can be delivered either in-house or via videoconference, the education team need to clean lots of scat so we can provide samples to far-away schools. This program illustrates a great partnership between the ASLC’s education, science and husbandry departments!
